It's called Pilot hair because it's made by the Pilot Ink Company! The Pilot Ink Company is most famous for their pens, but they make doll hair, too! Pilot hair feels very similar to saran hair when you touch it.

Pilot hair changes color with the temperature!! Please look at the photos below to see the colors that are offered. Some of our Pilot colors are very sensitive to warmth and change very easily, while other colors require a higher temperature in order to change color. No type is better than the other - it's just a matter of your personal preference. Maybe you want your doll's hair color to change with the slightest touch of your hand. Maybe you don't. Maybe you'd rather the hair only changed color on hot days, which is a pretty cool thing when a doll is on display in your home - on cold days, she'll have a different hair color than on hot days!
